A simple thermostat has a set programmed setback temperature. Here at 75F we believe that the setback temperature should be based on your user limits and the comfort selector.
Full Comfort = 2
The deeper the setback the more likely discomfort will be after warmup. If you opt for tight temperature control in the name of comfort, your building will not be allowed to go into as deep of a setback. The deeper the setback, the wider the zone gradient will become and the more difficult recovery will be.
Full Economy = 5
When comfort is less of a concern as saving energy you can move the comfort slider to full economy. This will allow the building to go into a deep setback. This also means morning warm up will take longer and a wider gradient between zones will be expected.
Calculation
Setback is determined using your user limits, the comfort slider value, and a setback constant.
Full Comfort Example
User limits: 67-70F
Comfort Slider: 2 (Full Comfort)
Constant: 1.5
Comfort Slider * Constant = 2 * 1.5 = 3
Heating Setback = 64
Cooling Setback = 73
Take the same example and move the comfort slider to Full Economy:
Comfort Slider: 5 (Full Economy)
5 * 1.5 = 7.5
Heating Setback = 59.5
Cooling Setback = 77.5
Safeties
No setback is allowed to breach the building limit. If the building limit + 3F falls in a tighter range than the calculated setback, the tighter band will be used.
