When you have thousands of dollars in cold store inventory it is necessary to protect it. Almost every kitchen I walk into the manager can show me the clip board where up to every hour someone is manually checking temperatures of the cold store systems. Working in IoT it's hard to believe a process like that is still paper driven.
75F has multiple options for monitoring refrigeration systems and alerting when any issues arise. Alerting you that it's time to look at the system instead of looking many times a day.
Equipment
There are two main options for refrigeration monitoring.
- Smart Node with up to two 10k Type 2 thermistors rated for cold temperatures. If product temperature is the concern, using a bottle filled with glycol surrounding the thermistor is a great option for mimicking food temperatures. Use one sensor for air temperature and another for simulated product temperature and cover all the bases.
- The Battery Temp Monitor (BTM) which takes two AA batteries and can either be put directly into a freezer or will accept up to two 10k Type 2 thermistors rated for cold temperatures.
You may be asking yourself which choice is the best for you. The answer is in what type of refrigeration systems are you monitoring. Typically we will recommend that the Smart Node option be used in any case 24VAC power is available and the fridge is stationary. With the Smart Node option there are no batteries to change. The advantage of the BTM is simply that no power wires need to be run to the device making installation very simple and allowing the BTM to be set in any fridge or freezer, on wheels or under the line.
